CGS Tracks Cases Under Digital Security Act

The Centre for Governance Studies is continuously tracking all the cases under the Digital Security Act that have been registered countrywide to the police station since January 1, 2020. And all the updated information regarding Digital Security Act are being published on the website regularly, according a press release.

Freedom of expression is one of the most important vital rights of a human being. Now a days freedom of expression is  under severe threat due to Digital Security Act-2018. Since the law came into effect Innumerable cases have been filed against Citizens from different sorts of life including students, teachers, journalists, politicians, businessman, govt. employees under the Digital Security Act-2018 for expressing their thoughts and criticism, especially on social media like Facebook, YouTube, Blog etc.

The Digital Security Act Bill-2018 splits the punishment of offences are categorized into separate sections, among which nine sections are described as detrimental to freedom of speech ( 8, 21, 25, 28, 29, 31, 32, 43 and 53) with punishment ranging from 6 months to 14 years' jail term, along with the financial penalty.
