Corruption has transformed as the cancer of our society. It is not easy to get rid of this disease without going through troublesome experiences and hassles. Therefore, SME owners of Khulna have to face bitter experiences of corruption, even though they try from their personal level to stand against it.The local business chambers sometimes listen to the problem, but they never provide any kind of solution. Besides, the business organizations are politicized, so they do not work from a neutral ground. They serve the purpose of the political elite in society.

These concerns were raised by the SME owners in a regional consultation organized by the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) in Khulna. The event was organized in collaboration with the Centre for International Private Enterprises (CIPE), a Washington-based organization, in the Hotel City Inn Limited on Wednesday to analyze the perception of corruption among the local entrepreneurs and the possibility of initiating a non-political anti-corruption platform.

The SME owners shared their traumatic experiences of corruption and irregularities faced in their day-to-day life. They said that VAT, Taxes are problematic because of the existing system. It does not concern the authority if the business is gaining profit or loss, every month, SME owners have to pay an amount to them, which is most of the time disproportionate.
